A few days ago I went looking for a Christmas card to go along with a gift I was giving. Target was filled with cards and after looking over too many of them I ended up going to a different rack and getting just a blank card where I could write my own message.
Being the preacher that I am, I am always thinking about how life holds forth lessons at every turn. Here’s my thought—–everyone of us is bombarded with messages this time of year. Spend on this, eat that, visit that person, host that party, did I mention EAT, EAT, EAT! But maybe this Christmas you could somehow move beyond all the messages that compete and get in touch with a new, personal and fresh message that God is trying to send your way. What would that message be? What is God desiring so much these next few days for you to hear and trust? We only have one more week. My guess is that the message that is the only message worth receiving will only happen as much as we make some blank space, some empty space, some quiet space where God has a chance to break through.
So if all the louder competing messages are just leaving you with one more stressed out Christmas, go over to the blank area of your life and see if there is not a better, purer, more divine message awaiting you that can make all the difference.
My prayer every year about this time is that I know a real Christmas. That will only happen when something from above comes my way. I pray that for you as well.
Brave Journey, Bill
