A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR

The contrast could not be more dramatic.  You step out of my former church in Wake Forest—a place of love and light and good news—to see immediately across the street a house submerged in Halloween decor.

Skeletons, cobwebs, monsters, you name it, it will immediately capture your attention.  Could that be a picture of our world today. Good news competing with bad news everywhere you turn.

Halloween often brings with it images of darkness—ghosts, shadows, things that go bump in the night.  But for followers of Christ, it’s also a powerful reminder that no matter how dark the world may seem God’s light still shines brighter.  As the Good News proclaims–“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5)

So this Friday, and every day, whether you are handing out candy, or just locking up your door and turning out the light, remember that not only does light conquer darkness, but you are called to live out your truest identity—“YOU are the light of the world.”  Because even on a night that celebrates darkness, we know the truth.  Light winds. Always.

Brave Journey, Bill
