A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR

“This is my body given for you, do this in remembrance of me.”  (Luke 22:19)

This coming Sunday we will be invited not to the CVBC table, certainly not to my table or yours, but to Christ’s table as we share in the Lord’s Supper.  He invites us, all of us, deserving or not, it is a sign of grace.

The bread, representing Christ’s broken body, the cup, representing his blood poured out for us, are more than mere symbols, they are reminders for us to come to on a regular basis that we never forget the sacrifice and love and lengths to which Jesus went in order to save us.  We really should tremble and partake in awe.  Do you know anyone else who died for you? And so we came to the table and are reminded, as the old hymn sings, “love so amazing, so divine, demands our soul, our life, our all.”

One more reminder—-Paul, teaching the early church, said that whenever you come to the table you should first examine yourself.  I have often said I don’t know precisely what Paul meant by that.  Here is what I take it to mean for me—I must be honest about what I am filled with that is not of God so I can empty myself in confession of my sins so that I can be able to be filled with all that the Supper offers.

Less of me, more of Christ.  Less of me, more of Christ.

So I come boldly to the table, having confessed my sins, to now be filled with that which ultimately satisfies—the presence of Christ.

I hope to see you around His table this Sunday.

Brave Journey,

Bill
