A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR

I will never forget the phone call. A man I had long loved and respected was calling me long distance on Easter morning from an alcoholic rehabilitation facility where he was a resident. His words, “Bill, I’ve discovered there’s a God and I ain’t it.” And this discovery made all the difference as he has now been sober for over 25 years. I wonder if you have made that discovery.

We of all people pride ourselves so often on being independent. We don’t want to be dependent on anyone or anything else. It suggests weakness, vulnerability, and a lack of confidence.

How tempting it is to live the lie that we are masters of our own fate, captain of our ships. But it is a lie that is deadly and life stealing. I will never know all God can do until and unless I allow God to do what only God can do. I thank God every day that I am not left to myself. Just as much, and more, I thank God that He is more than able to meet every challenge I face.

I’m not God because there is only one God and the more I humble myself and surrender myself to the greater power that is God’s the more my life reaches its highest fullness.

So where are you in this great discovery of life? Proverbs 3:26 reads, “For the Lord will be your confidence.” Indeed, how much better to live life in such assurance.

Brave Journey,
Bill
