A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR

“Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for others.” (John 15:13) With Memorial Day now come and gone, how do we continue to remember such love and be agents of such love ourselves? We travel to the Vietnam Memorial in Washington D.C. and are almost overwhelmed by the sheer numbers and remembrances of those who sacrificed and died in service to our country. I never go there without stopping by and etching my fingers along the name of Freddie Cobb, a childhood hero, and one of over 58,000 names who died and were MIA.

Those of us who are followers of Jesus Christ look to Calvary and never have to wonder about God’s love for us. As much as Easter is our highest celebration, for me it has always been the cross that stands at the center of my response. I have to take my life seriously because it is personal for me—someone, not just anyone, but the Son of God offered His life up for me.

As the old hymn says, “Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.” And so ever day is Memorial Day except for one overwhelming difference—-the one who loved us and gave His life up for us is not dead but is very much alive and living within us when we make room for Him.

So do you remember? How much you matter, how deeply you are loved, what the cross means for your life in 2025? It’s a celebration that doesn’t come on day a year but every day and so lets be the people whose celebration is the highest and fullest of all. Thanks be to God.

Brave Journey,
Bill
