A Word From Our Pastor

What is your favorite Bible verse? Most likely many will quote John 3:16, what has been called the whole gospel in one verse. My favorite verse, however, is the next one–John 3:17. “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved.” Think about what that says God is not out to get you real good, to punish you, to judge you. That is not His desire. I hear so many think of God as some divine Santa Claus—that He is forever keeping a list, checking it twice, to see whether you have been naughty or nice. We all sin, we are all broken, we all mess up, but God is in the business of saving, not condemning.

This is personal for me. I learned in my certification for spiritual direction that the number one spiritual issue for many is self-rejection. We are never enough it seems and as such can’t imagine that God is absolutely crazy about us. I have on the wall over our kitchen stove a homemade sign with the following three lines:
I am enough
I have enough
God is enough

Can you say that about your life? Can you as God’s beloved be able to trust and say with joy and thanksgiving—-I am enough….because….I have enough…because God is enough. Try it, trust it, know that God has your picture on His refrigerator door. Not condemnation, not rejection, not judgment. God is grace and you are His delight.

Brave Journey,
Bill
