A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR

As we pause to celebrate the 4th of July, we look around and see a country that seems more divided and polarized than ever.

Paul, writing to a church in Corinth plagued by similar conflict wrote those immortal words so often quoted—“Love is patient.  It is kind.  It is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth.”

There’s not a political candidate out there who could get elected on that platform, but don’t you wish there were?  Don’t you wish someone would stand up and say, “Enough of this.  We’ve tried every other way; let’s try the way of love.”  Well, someone did, and they crucified him, and yet—2000 years later, we are still talking about him.  His was the way of love, and something in us still knows it is the only thing that can bring us all together.

So, set off the fireworks and eat some watermelon, but most of all decide whose allegiance you will offer and whose way of life you will choose.  There can be only one answer, only one power on earth that can change the heart and bring a nation together.  The power of God’s love as lived through God’s people.

It’s our time to once again have it said of us–“they are turning the world upside down.”  May it be, Lord, may it be……as I not only celebrate our country but as I pledge my continued highest allegiance to that Kingdom not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

Brave Journey, Bill
