A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR

Last Wednesday, I celebrated my 71st birthday (thank you Wednesday night friends for surprise party).  Some days I can hardly believe I am that old.   Someone once asked the famous pitcher Satchel Paige “If you didn’t know your age how old do you think you are?”  Some days I would say 45, others 110!  The Bible says in Psalm 90:10 that a person “can live 70 or 80 if a person has special strength.”  I’ve got 70 taken care of, and I’m working on 80.  Another relevant verse is Deuteronomy 33:25–“As your days are, so shall your strength be.”

Last week on my birthday, I visited Aladine Rogers who will soon be 101.  She is the poster child for living graciously and leaning on God for each day.  I don’t know nor do you how many days we have, so my belief is that we are to wake up each day with the attitude that “this is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice in it.”  And then trust God for that day and not get ahead of Him for any future days.

So, if you didn’t know, how old are you?  My life has already brought me more blessings than I could ever deserve.  So, bring on 72 and however many God has in mind for me.  The good news is that whenever that day finally comes it will be the biggest celebration of all.

Brave Journey,

Bill
