A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR

“Even the wind and the waves obey him.”  (Matthew 8:27)

It is almost beyond comprehension to imagine the effects of Hurricane Milton following right behind the historic damage caused by Helene.  At the same time it is equally moving to see the response of people everywhere giving time, resources, donations of every kind in response.

I sat in a meeting this morning at the Raleigh Baptist Association and learned of tractor trailers departing daily filled with supplies provided by RBA Churches.  If you wish to donate there is a bin outside the church office and you can also donate financially by designating your check for WNC Rescue.  The sheer numbers are overwhelming.  RBA reports 420 churches in NC damaged or destroyed by Helene.

My daughter in St. Augustine has made necessary preparations.  Dear friends in Sarasota have already evacuated to Orlando for 3 nights…..and so stories on top of stories are being made, some heroic, some heartbreaking, and all deserving of not only our prayers, but our actions.

It is not for me or any of us to understand.  Clearly such devastation is not in the plans of God but is the result of living in a world where the rain falls on the just and the unjust.  The real question is not “Why?” but “What next?’   What will I do to help and heal and will I realize how blessed I am.

Join me in prayer and action.  Make a donation, say a prayer, and may God have mercy.  By the time you read this Florida will be yet another story.

Brave Journey, Bill
