From the Pastor’s Heart…

Do you know what your role is in the family of God? Do you know what your role is on Sunday morning? Whether you recognize it or not, we all have a reason to be here.

I came across this cute story and wanted to share it with you. Six-year-old Angie and her four-year-old brother Joel were sitting together during church services. Joel giggled, sang, and talked out loud. Finally, his big sister had enough. ‘You’re not supposed to talk out loud in church.’ ‘Why? Who’s going to stop me?’ Joel asked. Angie pointed to the back of the church and said, ‘See those two men standing by the door? They’re hushers.’

I am not sure we have any “hushers” that serve in our church but we do have a great church family that makes each week of worship very special. Since we started worshipping together on June 6th, I have felt a very sweet spirit. Now that we are singing together again, the spirit is even sweeter. I think there may be times when we take this word “worship” for granted. It is something some of us have done for years and years. It is a part of our lives. It has been a part of our lives for as long as we can remember. For others, you can’t remember a time when you were not in church, worshipping. Maybe you know people who have never attended church. If you do, invite them to join us in worship.

I know when I was growing up, worship was always a part of our week-end…or was it? Going to church was a part of every weekend, but was I really worshipping? I’m afraid we use this word very loosely. We say we are going to worship, but do we really worship? We talk about worship, but do we really understand what this means? Worship can be a noun or a verb. As a noun, worship means “the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a deity.” As a verb, worship means “to show reverence and adoration for a deity with honor and religious rites.” Whether we use worship as a noun or a verb, either way has one thing in common. Worship is all about God. It is about recognizing Him for who He is and then giving Him the praise and worship He deserves. We could never truly thank Him enough for what He means to us. However, we can take the time to worship Him. Whether it is on Sunday, or Wednesday, or any other day that ends in “Y”. Every day is a day of worship for the Christian.

Oh yeah, I said everyone has a role. Everyone has a reason for being here. Your role and my role are the same. We are to spend each day in worship of God. Thank Him for the day and thank Him for the night. Wherever you are, whatever you are doing, give thanks and worship God. Until we worship together again…

Peace and Blessings…  Johnny
