“Hello, we have been trying to reach you regarding your car’s extended warranty”…CLICK. “Hello, (insert politician name), I am going to work harder for the citizens of Wake County and our beloved community”…. CLICK “Hello, you have been selected for a short survey”…CLICK
Is anyone else receiving these phone calls? It is so annoying. I have blocked every number that calls with any sort of telemarketing scam or political message. I had to pause recently because I began to think, wonder if that is how God feels with us sometimes. God could be sending a message that we have been hearing and we “CLICK” (hang up) to not hear the call or we even “block the call” if it is something we are really avoiding.
I Peter 4:10-11 (NIV) says: 10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
In this passage, Peter continues to speak about how Christians should live and how we should use our talents to serve others. The strength is given to us to complete tasks and “calls” from God; even when we feel the least qualified or the least prepared.
In the September Deacon’s Meeting Ashley Walker, Youth Leader, enthusiastically reported her goals and plans for the CVBC Youth for the upcoming year. Ashley is preparing to raise the funds needed for the Youth to attend Passport Camp next summer. Even though Passport Camp was canceled this year, Ashley and her parents still took the Youth to Lake Gaston for a week-end of Bible Study and fun. Ashley’s energy and love for these young people was reflected vividly in her excitement and smiles as she spoke of her plans. Many of us saw Ashley grow from a beautiful, very active toddler in this church into a beautiful young lady sharing her gifts to our young people. Ashley spoke of her call to serve the Youth and prayed about it and at last reached out to Pastor Allard. There is no doubt this call for Ashley was a challenge given she was away at college, but God provided her with the means and strength to make it work.
A lesson for each of us, don’t hang up or block the call when GOD speaks; pray and listen. God will provide the strength we need to be a faithful steward. God Bless our Youth and God Bless Ashley.
We are Blessed! Beth Jenkins
