As most of you know, Kathy and I have cochlear implants due to our hearing loss. We jokingly tell people that if you hear us yelling at each other, all is fine. It’s when you don’t hear anything at all that you might worry.
Have you ever noticed how often we raise the volume of our voices when we think we’re not being heard? No one wants to be ignored, even more to not be of interest, to not matter.
In Psalm 66 the writer is calling out to God with that familiar question we have all asked at times—“How long?” Then suddenly, in the second half of verse 8, his tone changes—“…for the Lord heard the sound of my weeping. ” He goes on in verse 9—“The Lord has heard my supplication; the Lord accepts my prayer.” The writer demonstrates what happens when we honestly share our noisy minds and hearts with God.
We move beyond the initial noise and know the comfort of being heard. The warmth of knowing God cares and hears assures us we are not alone and that we do matter.
So keep calling on God, in quiet or loud ways, as your day requires. But know He not only hears, he understands, most of all He cares. Just keep on praying.
Brave Journey, Bill
