A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR

This Sunday is more than just a normal Sunday for many of us. It is Mother’s Day and while a good number of our church, like myself, no longer have a living mother to send a card to or make a phone call or even better visit, the memories of our mother’s remain strong and worthy of celebration.

I bet a lot of you had Godly mothers. That is why you are still in church and your faith makes a difference. It is because you had a mother who was a model and constant witness to the very best of the Christian life.

I’m sure my mother wasn’t a saint but she was and continues to be the closest to it I have ever known. Her daily devotions, her devotion to church, her love for others all stand out in my memory and no doubt left an indelible mark on me. She celebrated my call into the ministry and reminded me more than once (I’m sure I needed it) that people looked at me to be an example so don’t mess up.

But more than anything, and I felt this so often, I always felt I had an advantage going for me because I know my mother prayed for me every day. She was my spiritual cheerleader and I can’t think of any gift a mother can give her child than that.

So if your mother is still living, shower her with love and appreciation this Sunday. And if she is not, then quietly send up a prayer to God of thanksgiving—who knows she might overhear you!

We wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers in the church. I married one of the greatest mothers in the whole world, and just as great a wife as well. It is a special day.

Brave Journey, Bill
