A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR

I am officiating two funerals this week. My brother in law is in Hospice care. My brother died July 4th. And you probably know of someone facing the same, and maybe even wonder about yourself some days.

I am always amazed how often I hear from even the most committed of Christians how uncertain they are about their eternal destiny. My default verse is from Paul who says that NOTHING can separate us from the love of God in Jesus Christ. NOTHING! As I just as often say, “Your reservations were confirmed a long time ago.

This is yet another week where national politics are getting the headlines. As has always been the case, politicians promising that if we just vote for them the future will suddenly turn bright and all our hopes will be fulfilled. Personally, I think politicians (not to mention all of us) make pretty poor saviors. There is only one Savior, Jesus Christ, and that is where I decide I can place my hopes.

A favorite passage of Scripture for me at times of funerals, but also at times for life being what it is these days, is found in John’s Revelation of the future. Here is what God revealed to John:
“I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away…..and I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband, and I heard a great voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things have passed away.”

This is our future. Given by the one and only Savior. Thanks be to God.

Brave Journey,
Bill
