In this season of Lent, we are reminded of the things we carry that feel heavy and weighty.
Some carry grief. Some carry disappointment. Some carry worry about the future, conflict, or quiet questions.
Others carry the everyday burdens of responsibility, fatigue, and uncertainty. Sometimes the weight we carry is visible, but often times it is not.
Lent permits us to acknowledge those burdens rather than pretending they are not there. Throughout Scripture, we see that God never asks people to ignore what is heavy. The Psalms are full of honest prayers. The prophets cried out in confusion and lament. Even Jesus, in the garden before the cross, spoke openly about the anguish of his heart.
Faith does not mean pretending everything is easy. Faith means bringing what is heavy to God. Lent reminds us that we do not carry these things alone. We are reminded of the need to pray for and extend grace to one another—and to ourselves.
Grace and peace to you this Lenten season.
