“Bless the Lord O my soul….and forget not all His benefits.” Psalm 103
Let me ask you – are you a glass half-full or glass half-empty kind of person? It is always a choice, and as God’s people, that should impact how you view all of life. I encountered that in rather dramatic fashion a few weeks ago as Kathy and I embarked on a Viking River Cruise on the Danube River. The trouble was, the Danube River was at record low levels due to a historic drought Europe is experiencing. As a result, our “river cruise” turned out to be as much a bus trip as a river cruise. And so, the reviews started coming in. Some remarked that the food was still wonderful, that we still saw many sights, that there was much to enjoy. In other words, while it wasn’t what was advertised, there still was so much to take advantage of. Others, however, under the same circumstances, wanted their money back, complained that we didn’t get all that we paid for, and decided that the trip was a disappointment.
Which people do you think I wanted to be around? And I couldn’t help but think about how I view life in general. Full of gifts God has given me versus feeling cheated and feeling like life owes me more. The Psalmist says, “Don’t forget.” Don’t forget all God has done for you. Don’t forget that you are loved unconditionally. Don’t forget that nothing can separate you from God’s love. Don’t forget you woke up this morning with another day to decide how you will view the day before you. Gratitude makes all the difference. Your glass is half full, in fact, mine overflows. That’s because I have chosen to look at it that way.
Brave Journey,
Bill
