A WORD FROM OUR PASTOR

“Be still and know that I am God.”  (Psalm 46:10)

That may be one of the greatest challenges in all of Scripture. How do you do with that?

It is maybe an especially timely question in the middle of winter when it is cold outside and getting out with others is less frequent.

I have heard it said that the reason it is so hard to be by yourself is that it means spending time with your least favorite person—YOU!!  I hope that is not the case but surely there are many gifts that being still can offer.

Among them–time to rest, time to read Scripture or a good book, maybe chat with a friend from long ago, or cook a special meal.  (Notice I didn’t mention killing the hours watching TV or being glued to social media).

It all the more reminds us of how getting out on Wednesday night offers the opportunity of being connected to others, as does Sunday morning.  God created us for community which is why being quiet and even more so alone, is such a challenge.  But he also created in us a rhythm that invites us to withdraw and replenish as well.

So be still….and get in touch with knowing He is God.  What a gift!

Brave Journey, Bill
